National Association of Neonatal Nurses State of Michigan Chapter was chartered in 1991 as the 37th chapter of the National Association of Neonatal Nurses (NANN). It has since been the recipient of the NANN Chapter of Year Award in 1994, 1996, 1998, 2001, 2003, 2006, 2009, 2012, and 2016. Membership is comprised of nearly 200 members representing over 20 area hospitals.

Our Mission:

SMANN is committed to:

  • Promoting neonatal nursing practice & education

  • Functioning as a forum for professional networking among neonatal nurses

  • Supporting community efforts to reduce infant mortality and promote the health and wellness of infants in Southeastern Michigan

Our Goals:

  • Facilitate the exchange of information and collegiality among neonatal nurses

  • Improve neonatal nursing practice through education and research efforts

  • Provide input into health policy regarding infants, families, and the nursing profession

  • Increase public awareness of the association through the support of community

  • Support individual member participation in the association

  • Maintain financial stability and growth of the association

  • Promote the health of neonates and their families
